The Rebel Veterans Organization, also known as Rebel Vets, is a nationally recognized Student Veterans of America (SVA) chapter that is dedicated to empowering and motivating student veterans not only here at UNLV but across the nation. Our primary mission is to promote veterans’ success in higher education and career placement. We strive to provide responsive academic, social, professional, and administrative support to student veterans, as well as active duty military members and their families. We advocate for local, state, and federal policies that help our members successfully navigate their academic careers. We also serve the public through various community service opportunities, such as park clean-ups, veteran career fairs, and assisting disaster relief efforts in Texas. Our goal is to cultivate camaraderie within the UNLV population and beyond, continuing the service that bonds us through social and community events as we complete the transition from service members to students to professionals. All of these accomplishments led the Rebel Vets to be distinguished as top five finalists (out of 1,500 chapters) for Chapter of the Year at this years SVA National Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
Rebel Vets is partnering with the Truckee Meadows Veterans Club (TMVC) in Reno to execute the first statewide Operation Battle Born ruck march to honor the fallen heroes from the Global War on Terror. Over the course of 8 days, veterans and volunteers from across the state will take turns carrying two rucksacks that share 6950 service member dog tags including the 57 fallen Nevadans since September 11th. In their honor, we will march from Las Vegas Veteran Memorial to Fernley Veterans Memorial Cemetery for a total of 370 miles. Participants and volunteers from around the state will be asked to challenge themselves physically and emotionally battling the heat and the weight of the fallen heroes on their back. Veterans and local community members will have the opportunity to experience a sense of comradery that comes with accomplishing a difficult task.
As you may imagine, the costs of planning, executing, and buying necessary supplies for Operation Battle Born can get expensive. In order to successfully complete this intricate mission and support all of our participants, we will need your assistance. Your donation will go towards the cost of vehicle rentals, gas, hotel rooms, safety equipment, food, water, participant t-shirts, and more. Please help us as we march for those who fought for our freedom. Just as our heroes never wavered in their service to our country, we cannot waiver in our recognition of their sacrifice. Were honored by your generous contributions of any amount to this historical event.
