We started on a mission on setting a goal to bring a fifteen UNLV students on a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel across the country to New York City with little to no cost. In hopes of continuing our professional and personal development skills in a completely different environment. In order to achieve our goal, IBA planned countless fundraisers, such as bake sales, restaurant fundraisers, help from the UNLV Lee Business School, and contributions from CSUN and individual downers.
Fast forwarding to the first day of our trip, we all gathered together Thursday night filled with excitement and curiosity for what New York City has to offer. On March 23rd, we took off to New York city for a life changing experience. Our first day there, we attended Macy’s, Google headquarters and the United Nations quarters. During our Macy’s tour, we learned the history of Macy’s and received insight about creating a lifelong success. Also, we learned about creating communities within the fashion and retail world as well as how to appeal to targeted customers directly from an experienced professional from Macy’s. Our second stop was the Google headquarters where our tour guide was extremely helpful in explaining the work environment, what Google stands for, and their agency as a company. This tour really gave our members the opportunity to immerse themselves in a regular working day for Google. Our third stop that day was the United Nations, we learned all about humanitarian movements, budgets, government, and discussed foreign policy. During the United Nations tour we truly understood culture and community because this was represented in several artifacts such as the paintings, and the rooms themselves. The tour guide explained the events that occured in the rooms and explained important historical moments, allowing us to reflect on where we are today as a nation.
The next three days our members attended the Empire State Building, the Grand Central Station, Times Square, Rockefeller Plaza, the Statue of Liberty Ferry + Tour, the World Trade Center, Pete’s tavern, the Federal Hall, and Wall Street. Throughout this trip we were able to fulfill the four pillars that the International Business Association stands for which are Culture, Community, Connections, and Career. Our members were able to make connections with the professionals at Google, be cultured by experiencing New York City as a whole, invest in community by learning how to work as a group and interact with their peers, and grow their career by being exposed to the endless possibilities of who they can become. We want to thank everyone who has contributed to rebel raiser, participated in our restaurant fundraiser and our bake sales, as well as csun, the less business school, and all of the faculty and administrative staff that have make this trip possible. On behalf of all of the International Business Association members, thank you so much to everyone that made this trip possible! There hasn’t been a better day to be a Rebel!
