The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) de UNLV's mission is to empower the Hispanic community to reach its fullest potential and impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support, and development. SHPE de UNLV focuses greatly on community outreach and leadership/professional development. At a local level, we volunteer weekly at Rowe Elementary School's science program to increase young students' interest in science and engineering. SHPE de UNLV also presents at various high schools to encourage students to continue their education and consider pursing a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) degree. As a chapter, we help UNLV engineering students grow as leaders and professionals through interactions with professionals in the industry, SHPE de UNLV hosted workshops and events, and attending multiple conferences throughout the school year.
SHPE National Conference 2016
The money raised from this campaign will go towards funding 7 SHPE de UNLV members to go to the National Conference in Seattle, Washington from November 2nd to November 6th. The goal of $5,000 will allow us to completely cover the transportation, lodging, and registration costs for these dedicated students. At the conference, students will attend all-day technical and skill-building workshops hosted by top engineering companies. These workshops allow attendees to interact with engineering students from schools across the nation as well as professionals from the engineering industry. At the end of the conference, students will participate in the largest career fair geared towards Hispanics and Latinos; last year's conference had 7,000 attendees with over 200 professionals. This career fair provides great opportunities for our members as companies host on-the-spot interviews for internships, co-ops, and full-time positions. This is an extraordinary experience that we do not want our members to miss!
SHPE de UNLV would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who donates or spreads the word about our campaign. Please share with all of your friends and family, and know that you are helping aspiring engineers get one step closer to reaching their goals!
