RebelSat is a student organization at UNLV with one big goal: to send UNLV to space! RebelSat has over 90 students from different majors and backgrounds, ranging from mechanical engineering to accounting, working together on the research, development, and operations of RebelSat. We are paving the road for aerospace exposure at UNLV and Nevada through the building of a miniature satellite called a CubeSat.
CubeSats are a fundamental component for university space programs, allowing students to gain hands-on design and engineering experience relating to spacecraft development, a trend that we are actively maximizing. RebelSat UNLV was established with an industry-company dynamic to provide the best experience possible for students. This not only gives students real-world experience, but it also allows students to work on something completely new and unique to the state of Nevada.
What is a CubeSat?
A CubeSat, as described by NASA, is a type of small satellite under the classification of “nanosatellite.” RebelSat is about 10 x 10 x 30 centimeters...pretty small! However, RebelSat-1 will be using very advanced technology within itself, particularly in the form of a novel propulsion system that has never before been used in space. This propulsion system is known as a cold-gas aerospike thruster, which is theorized to be more effective in space than the traditionally-used bell nozzle, as can be seen on rockets. In addition to the aerospike thruster, RebelSat-1 will be using state-of-the-art software and manufacturing technologies to make it as successful a mission as possible!

The creation of Nevada’s first CubeSat is an unprecedented opportunity… and you can be part of it! As a donor, you will fund some of the materials needed to create the CubeSat. Your support will also give us the opportunity to connect with the campus community, the Las Vegas community, and other aerospace programs across the whole country. Your generous donations will support students in pursuing their dreams, getting a head start in their careers, and working closely with established industry professionals. The development of RebelSat-1 gives students of all majors a unique opportunity to not only apply what they have learned in the classroom, but to make connections and experiences that will last a lifetime.
